How to Wear a Navratna Piece
- Get your kundli read first. Even though Navratna balances all planets, a Jyotishi will confirm no gem is contraindicated for you (e.g. some birth charts should never wear Neelam and Pukhraj together).
- Choose the setting. Traditional Navratna is a ring, pendant or bracelet in gold. Ruby always sits in the centre; the other 8 stones sit around it in fixed compass directions (Sun-East, Venus-South-East, Mars-South, Rahu-South-West, Saturn-West, Moon-North-West, Mercury-North, Ketu-North-East, Jupiter-behind Sun).
- Ensure skin contact. Every one of the 9 stones must have an open back so the gem touches your skin. If a jeweller closes the back for durability, the astrological benefit is lost.
- Energise before wearing. Wash the piece in raw milk, then Ganga jal, then dry it. Place it before a Navagraha yantra, light a diya, chant "Om Navagrahaya Namah" 108 times.
- First wear window. Sunrise on a Sunday (Sun ruled) or Thursday (Jupiter ruled) during Shukla Paksha. Wear on the right ring finger (rings) or right wrist (bracelet).
- Care. Never remove the piece daily; take it off only for the mikvah/bath cleanse each Amavasya, re-energise, and put it back on.
